Maths Resources- Key Learning Points

1. Volume is the amount of space occupied by a solid shape. Volume is measured in cm3 or m3 depending on measurements given.
2. Capacity is the amount of liquid a container will hold. Capacity is measured in ml or l depending on measurement given.
3. Rule for finding volume/capacity = Multiply the height by the width by the length of a cuboid/cube
H x L x W
Example = Find volume/capacity of a cuboid of height 5cm, width 5cm and length 8cm
Volume = 5cm x 5cm x 8cm = 200cm3
Capacity = 5 x 5 x 8 = 200ml
Notice both answers differ only by their unit of measurement. Volume measures area inside a shape, while capacity measures liquid inside a shape.
Watch the video below for more info, please note in sixth class we only find the volume/capacity of cuboids and cubes.

Pupils, was delighted to get so many messages letting me know how the break is going for ye, keeping a regular routine and making time for exercise seem to be what is working best for ye!The weekends news has cast further uncertainty for sixth class pupils in relation to the closing of the school year, I know its very disappointing, personally I am too, but we will make the best of the situation regardless. Meanwhile I know the parents association will be contacting you, in regards your hoodies. This time will pass and and you will be able to enjoy all the things you love to do soon.Stay positive, stick to a routine and enjoy time spent with your family!
